Savannah Guthrie took a moment to thank actor Allison Janney for her unexpected acknowledgement of the NBC journalist’s public plight following the disappearance of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, nearly eight months ago. On Monday night, Janney picked up an Emmy Award for her portrayal of President Grace Penn in the Netflix series “The Diplomat.” Speaking to reporters backstage immediately after her win was announced, the actor was asked to share her thoughts on Nancy Guthrie, who was reported missing on Feb. 1. “I honestly can say I think about her every day and think about the loss and what Savannah and her family are going through,” she said. “It truly, it just took over — and I don’t think I’m alone, too. I think all of America was thinking about her.” On Tuesday’s installment of NBC’s “Today,” Savannah Guthrie became emotional while discussing Janney’s remarks with fellow anchor Willie Geist. “I was so touched to see her do that,” she said. “It was her moment of her triumph, and for her to sit and just take a moment and think about our family.” After noting that she and her siblings Annie and Camron Guthrie are still “in such pain” in the wake of their mother’s disappearance, she added, “We just want our mom home, give her a proper goodbye. That’s all.” Watch Savannah Guthrie’s comments on Allison Janney below. Nancy Guthrie was last seen alive around 9:50 p.m. on Jan. 31, when she was dropped off at her home near Tucson, Arizona, after dinner with relatives. In the days following her disappearance, several ransom notes were sent to the media as well as members of the Guthrie family that investigators initially deemed credible. One such note demanded a reported $6 million in cryptocurrency for Nancy Guthrie’s return. Though the FBI later determined that several of the notes were fake, officials reaffirmed in July that Nancy Guthrie’s case was still being investigated as a kidnapping for ransom. The most significant lead in the case remains surveillance images and video showing a masked individual on the front steps of Nancy Guthrie’s home on the night of her alleged abduction. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified. After a lengthy leave of absence, Savannah Guthrie returned to work at NBC’s “Today” in April. Since then, she has continued to acknowledge her mother regularly on social media, and in June, she appeared briefly at the end of a “Today” segment that included details about her mom’s disappearance.
