Sally Field and Reba McEntire paid tribute to the late, great Dolly Parton at the 78th annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday. “If there are truly angels on earth, then we just lost one ― Dolly Parton,” actor Sally Field said. “It was my great, good fortune to have worked with Dolly in a film called ’Steel Magnolias,’” the actor said to applause from the audience. I adored her from Day 1 ― how could you not?” the Oscar winner said. “She was genuine and humble ― supportive, and blisteringly funny. With a bawdy sense of humor that would send any rude guy looking for a place to hide.” “I couldn’t see then what a real giant Dolly was. Not just as an artist, but as a human. She was a humanitarian whose contributions have made a profound in the lives of so many in her home state of Tennessee and across our country.” “God bless you, Dolly Parton, my friend. I am not the only one on earth that will love you forever and ever,” Field said to rapturous applause. McEntire then sang a stirring rendition of Parton’s song “Appalachian Memories.” Parton, 80, died last month in her home state of Tennessee. The singer’s nephew announced Parton’s death in a video shared on social media in August. The “9 to 5” actor’s family later confirmed that Parton died after “a brief battle with cancer.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
