Jimmy Fallon Mocks Trump Over Ludicrous AI Claim: 'Well, I Feel Better'

Jimmy Fallon on Monday mocked President Donald Trump for arguing that the U.S. doesn’t need new “guardrails” to regulate artificial intelligence. “President Trump dismissed concerns over AI, posting on Truth Social, ‘The only control or “guardrails” that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT,’” said Fallon during his opening monologue on “The Tonight Show.” He joked, “Well, I feel better.” Trump has no academic credentials or professional experience regarding his apparent new “Golden Goose,” but claimed he can personally keep AI in check — and that calls for further regulation are part of a nefarious plot. “We already have tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies!” Trump wrote Monday. “There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about that is CHINA.” The MAGA leader made his comments after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called for greater safeguards and to slow development, explaining in a lengthy essay that AI could spin out of control and wreak serious economic and national security havoc. “We’re relying on Trump to beat AI?” Fallon said. “I don’t even think Trump can beat Wordle. You know what I’m saying? Trump’s handling it, which means he’s going to change the name from ‘Artificial Intelligence’ to ‘American Intelligence.’ I know what he’s doing. “Keep in mind, up until a week ago, Trump thought AI stood for ‘American Idol,’” joked Fallon before launching into an imitation of the president assuaging the American public, “I’ve spoken with Ryan Seacrest, and we’re perfectly safe.” Catch the bulk of Fallon’s jokes starting at 0:27: Fears of rapid AI advancement escalated last week when Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon resigned and warned that the “people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade,” prompting lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to call for federal regulation. “Meanwhile, Trump also said he’s ‘not downplaying’ the risks, but that it will be ‘more good than bad, by a lot,’” Fallon noted. “For some reason, Trump’s not eager to stop something that lets him make photos of himself as Jesus riding a bald eagle.” He continued, “Yep, Trump said that concerns about AI have been exaggerated by ‘very negative forces.’ And then he announced plans to fight those forces with a new military branch called the Very Negative Force Force.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
