Emmys Snub Absolute Icon During The 'In Memoriam' Portion

You wouldn’t want to make Chuck Norris mad, even if he’s dead. But the Emmy Awards flirted with a butt-kicking from the beyond by snubbing the “Walker, Texas Ranger” star during the “In Memoriam” portion of the broadcast. Norris was well known for his martial arts action movies, but he earned his way into TV’s pantheon as well by playing law enforcer Cordell Walker on “Walker, Texas Ranger” (1993-2001). Norris died at the age of 86 in March, just days after the Oscars. So he didn’t make the cut for that either. But he arguably is better known to many for his Western swagger on “Walker.” Rob Reiner and Catherine O’Hara were among the obvious notables who made the cut in the Emmys’ farewell. Joining Norris in the left-out category on the NBC broadcast were “Buffy the Vampire” star Nicholas Brendon, Patrick Muldoon of “Melrose Place” and game show star Jaye. P. Morgan, Deadline reported. All appear on the Emmys’ “In Memoriam” web page, but it takes some scrolling to find them. A spokesperson for the Television Academy also pointed out that there’s a “more extensive video” on the website. “Given only a few minutes to honor those who have passed, there is a limit on how many people can be acknowledged on the broadcasts,” the spokesperson wrote in an email. Here’s the “In Memoriam” as it appeared on the air.
