My oldest pair of Docs are 14 years old and still as cool (and functional) as the day I got them. <3

I am a former editor and contributor to the BuzzFeed shopping team with over seven years of experience testing and recommending products that help make life a little easier, whether that’s ultralight gear, holy grail serum, jeans that fit just right, or anything in between.

Unless otherwise specified, all sizes in this post are listed in women's.

I grew up in Florida, and when I went away to college in Boston, my first pair of "winter boots" were a pair of 1460s. They kicked butt then, and they still kick butt now. I've worn them with probably everything in my closet at least once and likely once for every activity, too. Walking in the city? Quick hike? Going dancing? They're up for anything. Pair with thick socks for winter (okay, ultra-thick for a Boston winter) or thin socks for summer and rock them all year long. Sure, they're a little creased, and I've been meaning to get some new insoles for them, but for a 13-year-old pair of shoes, they look pretty freaking great. Thanks, Docs!

Promising review: "I was stoked to finally fulfill my middle school wannabe alt dreams of owning white Docs! They're as awesome as I hoped they would be and look great with my printed skirts. I'm typically a women's size 9-and-a-half, but a men's size 8, so I went with the men's size-8/women's size-9 and they fit perfectly! Breaking them in has been relatively easy. I layered fleece-lined leggings over my socks to pad my ankles, and it's been really helpful. They also shipped way faster than I expected, considering I purchased them for Black Friday. Already recommending my roommate gets a pair!" —Victoria D.

Price: $180 (available in women's sizes 5–12, men's sizes 6–14, and four colors)

Promising review: "Bought these sandals to wear to Vegas three years ago, and I’ve worn them almost every single day since. They’re comfortable, versatile, and without a doubt the best purchase I’ve ever made, so much so that I had to come back to write a review." —Jazz T.

Price: $160 (available in women's sizes 5–11)

I have a *slightly* different pair of Dr. Martens mules, but I'd expect these to be similar in greatness, especially with so many reviews backing them up. (My exact pair isn't currently available!) Mules are having a moment for sure, but the classic Doc spin ensures they'll stay cool for a long while. I wear mine when I need to feel like I can kick down any door, mostly metaphorically (but every once in a while literally, lol), and I just couldn't recommend them more highly!

Promising reviews: "Very cute and love the color! Very durable, also, I wear them to work all the time! I get compliments on them all the time!" —Bobby R

Promising review: "These are so cute!! When I first saw them in-store, I thought they were so cute, but on someone else. Then I kept seeing them, and eventually tried them on and had to have them. I absolutely love the double buckle. Yes, they need to be broken in and softened up, but that’s expected. They are true to size. Like my other Docs, they don’t take long to break in. After two weeks, they’re totally comfy." —JIWillis
