One Homeland Security Investigations agent described what he found as “among the worst he had ever seen.”

As a staff writer at BuzzFeed, I write about all things celeb, pop culture, and books.

Warning: This post mentions rape, child sex abuse, child abuse, murder, domestic violence, and gun violence.

She told Rolling Stone, "In some kind of way, I became the villain. And I don't know if people don't take it seriously because I seem strong. I wonder if it's because of the way I look. Is it because I'm not light enough? Is it that I'm not white enough? Am I not the shape? The height? Because I'm not petite? Do I not seem like I'm worth being treated like a woman?

I'm trying every day to get through it and be good. I feel so bad because I don't feel like anybody's taking me seriously, but I don’t want them to see me cry. I don't want them to know that I feel like this, because I don't want them to feel like, 'Oh, I got you. I'm breaking you.'"

She continued, "HE AINT DARE GET ON THAT STAND AND DENY HE SHOT ME AND THAT WAS HIS CHOICE BECAUSE HE KNOWS DID THAT SHIT! IDGAF ABT A BLOG OR A BOT!!! WHY IN TF WOULD ME … MEGAN THEE STALLION HAVE TO LIE ON THIS MF ABT SHOOTING ME! How yall mad at the person that got shot ???? FACTS ARE FACTS , he did it , it was PROVEN IN COURT fuck the hate campaign on the internet TORY YOU SHOT ME !! Ain't no new fucking evidence yall been saying the same shit for years TORY PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE you a fucking demon. I'm off this silly ass internet shit, BYE."

She also said that she reported the rape to the police 20 years prior, and her mom, who was still a Scientologist, shunned her. She claimed she broke a "code" in the church by speaking out against Masterson, who was "untouchable." After the sexual assault, she lost "pretty much everything."

She said, "The ugly truth is I didn't want to live. I remember crying myself to sleep and wishing I would not wake up."

The second survivor initially did not speak about being raped. She'd been "a brainwashed member for seven years at the time of the assault" and alleged that the church was Masterson's "enabler and protector." However, as the #MeToo movement spread, she decided it was time to speak out. In court, she told him, "I could not sit with this secret and tough it out knowing you'd strike again, knowing the danger women were in and that many others needed justice, too.

In my heart, I had no choice but to come forward. And because of already having been threatened with Scientology's strict policies against reporting members to law enforcement, and deliberately being shown their extensive policies in exacting ruinous punishment on defectors who speak out against its prized members — I decided to report my rape to law enforcement anyway, with the full understanding that my life could be demolished again in a new way for doing so... I have been terrorized, harassed.

But I don't regret it. You disfigured my life. You stole some crucial pieces of my self-worth and lessened my capacity for joy. You made every part of me turn on myself... Your sickness is no longer my burden to bear."

In a statement, the Church of Scientology said, "The Church was not a party to this case, and religion did not belong in this proceeding as Supreme Court precedent has maintained for centuries."

Nineteen years of that sentence will be served concurrently with his previous sentence.

In a statement following her two-day-long testimony, Cassie said, "This week has been extremely challenging, but also remarkably empowering and healing for me. I hope that my testimony has given strength and a voice to other survivors, and can help others who have suffered to speak up and also heal from the abuse and fear.

For me, the more I heal, the more I can remember. And the more I can remember, the more I will never forget. I want to thank my family and my advocates for their unwavering support, and I'm grateful for all the kindness and encouragement that I have received. I'm glad to put this chapter of my life to rest. As I turn to focus on the conclusion of my pregnancy, I ask for privacy for me and for my growing family."

Mann alleged that, in 2013, Weinstein forced her to have unwanted sex with him in a hotel room. Weinstein's team argued that his sexual encounter with Mann was consensual. In a statement, his rep, Juda S. Engelmayer, said, "Harvey is relieved by today's outcome. We believe this is the result that should have been reached from the outset, had the grand jury been presented with the full scope of the emails, text messages, and other private communications."

It was at least 16 months before the Duggars informed the authorities or got any of their children counseling. Unfortunately, the statute of limitations had expired by the time the police began their investigation.

In a statement to Nightline, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, the parents, said, "We love all of our children very much. As with any family, few things are more painful than conflicts or problems among those you love. We've aimed to deal honorably with our children, our finances, and our other endeavors. While imperfect, it is our intent and desire to live a life that honors Christ. We do not believe the best way to resolve conflicts, facilitate forgiveness and reconciliation, or to communicate through difficulties is through the media or in a public forum so we will not comment further. As the future unfolds, we will continue to love our family, pray for them, and enjoy every moment gifted to us to be parents and grandparents."

In 2022, Josh Duggar was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison for receiving child sexual abuse material. According to BuzzFeed News, a Homeland Security Investigations agent described one video found "as among the worst he had ever seen."

He told the court, "Why I'm being sentenced to the verdict of second-degree versus manslaughter, that doesn't matter. Neither verdict brings her back. But I thought it was important, and I hear that it's important for the family to know that I didn't commit first-degree murder. There was no premeditated anything."

Packard was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

He also offered to pay her to find other minors to have sex with him. In 2013, he went back to NYC and had commercial sex with the same girl, and he later returned to the city to have commercial sex with a different underage victim.

He agreed to pay 14 victims $1.4 million in restitution, which was the Southern District of Indiana's largest-ever restitution payment in a sex trafficking or child sex abuse materials case.
