“It’s something I passed on to a few roommates and friends over the years, and they always said it helps them, too.”

I’m an award-winning writer and editor living in New York City, where I currently work at BuzzFeed as the Senior Lifestyle Editor.

"I don’t let them pile up throughout the day because I actually loathe doing dishes and hate the idea of standing at a kitchen sink. At the end of the night, it’s maybe a glass and an ice cream spoon."

"THIS is a real winner. A few weeks ago, I went through my socks, undies, and bras and got rid of stuff that I didn’t ever wear because I didn’t like them. Even if it was in great condition. Even if it was cute or comfortable (not both, because I obviously wear those ones). Like, why am I keeping undies that I will NEVER choose to wear??? Get 'em out of here! I’m about to do a round two because I wasn’t aggressive enough the first time, lol."

"Micellar water and cotton rounds plus a small trash can so I don’t have to get up when I forget to wash my face."

"I like to time myself — can I empty the dishwasher while my oats cook in the microwave for three mins?"

"And putting in the addresses of places I need to go, with alerts!"

"A higher-up at my old company once asked me to put on a pot of coffee in the office kitchen.

Me: 'I don’t know how. I don’t drink the office coffee, so I never make it.'

Him, exasperated: 'No, how to MAKE the office coffee!'

Me: 'Why would I make the office coffee if I never drink the office coffee? Seems like the kinda thing people who drink the office coffee should know how to do.'

"I unload my dishwasher every morning, then it’s free for dishes dirtied throughout the day to be put right in. No dishes in the sink."

"I watched my family do this my whole life; therefore, I do it, too. It's something I passed on to a few roommates and friends over the years, and they always said it helps them, too."
