Temperatures are on the rise again in time for the weekend with areas of the south experiencing 27C on Sunday.

However, before that, wet and windy conditions are in the Friday forecast for many across the northern half of the UK.

Low pressure systems continue to roll in from the Atlantic across the far north of the UK, affecting mostly northern and western Scotland.

Meanwhile, high pressure will block and weaken these fronts across the southern half of England and Wales, where drought conditions and hosepipe bans continue.

Friday will feel cooler across central and southern areas of England and south Wales with a brief spell of rain in the morning, followed by sunny spells into the afternoon.

It should also feel less humid, but temperatures could still reach 22C (72F).

By contrast, northern England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and north Wales will have a breezy day with sunny spells and a scattering of showers which could be heavy in the west.

There will be fewer showers and more sunshine for eastern Northern Ireland and eastern Scotland.

Gales are expected for exposed coasts and hills in western Scotland.

The UK will import some hotter air from France and central Europe this week, whilst rain-bearing weather fronts approach from the west

Saturday is looking fine and dry for England and Wales as hotter air from France makes its way to the UK.

In Scotland and Northern Ireland there will also be a lot of dry weather with the chance of a few showers in the west and more cloud through the afternoon.

On Sunday it will be cloudy and damp for many in Northern Ireland and western Scotland.

South-westerly winds will scoop up more warm, humid air from Europe and it's likely to feel hot again in the best of the sunshine for England and Wales. Eastern Scotland is also likely to stay dry with sunny spells.

Temperatures could peak at 27C (81F) in south-east England. Northern England, south-west England and Wales could reach 24C (75F), while Northern Ireland and eastern Scotland could see 20C (68F).

There is some uncertainty about how long the warmth will last beyond the weekend.

It looks most likely that Atlantic weather-systems will continue to bring westerly winds and areas of rain at times.

On Tuesday there is a chance that a deep area of low pressure will bring stormy conditions but it is currently too far away to predict if it will happen with any certainty as well as where the strongest winds and heaviest rain will be.
