Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was told to look in the mirror after attacking the media over its coverage of the Iran war.

During a press conference at the G20 Summit of Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors in North Carolina this week, Bessent was asked whether he believes the conflict, which Donald Trump launched in February, is “closer to the end or are we in the middle?”

Bessent claimed Iran no longer controls the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow channel through which a significant share of the world’s oil passes, and said the country’s regime is now in “a death spiral.”

He then turned his fire on the media.

“One of the best allies that the Iranians have on this is the media because the media immediately publishes all the lies that they say,” he fumed.

“Everyone in this audience and every news outlet should be ashamed for publishing that, taking a lying regime at face value,” Bessent added.

The irony of Bessent, a member of an administration that for years has faced intense scrutiny over its own false claims, was not lost on critics on social media:

And he would be right. The trump regime lies all the time

Bessent’s going after “a lying regime”? That’s some stand up routine the boy’s got.

OOOHH how cute...he's pretending to be like trump = reverse everything he said

The jokes write themselves

Pretty rich to say when you work for a pathological liar

Couldn't give a fuck less what Iran is saying. I take the prolonged war and increasing prices at face value. Bessent is such a pretentious fuckwad.
