McDonald's has swapped iconic fall flavors in its seasonal coffee lineup this year, leaving pumpkin spice off the menu for the first time in a decade.

The company confirmed to USA TODAY its fall McCafé coffee lineup at participating locations will feature caramel apple instead of pumpkin spice.

"We're always exploring new ways to give fans seasonal flavors to enjoy," McDonalds said in a statement to USA TODAY. "We chose Caramel Apple Pie because it offers a fresh take on the familiar tastes of fall — and one we think fans will fall in love with."

McDonald's first introduced pumpkin spice to its seasonal coffee offerings in 2016.

The flavor has become nearly ubiquitous in the fall over the past two decades, particularly since Starbucks introduced the Pumpkin Spice Latte in 2003. The flavor has since gone on to be imbued in bagels, over the counter medicines and ice cream.

Buffalo Wild Wings is just one of several restaurant chains bringing back menu items from the past.

As part of its Throwback Menu, Buffalo Wild Wings is also bringing back its Hot BBQ sauce, which blends spicy heat and sweetness.

Pizza Hut's Throwback Value Menu, launched in July, includes a $3 Personal Pan Pizza.

White Castle has a throwback special of 10 Original Sliders for $8.99, through Aug. 23.

Taco Bell’s newest Decades Menu brings back menu items from 2016.

The Meximelt, first introduced in the 1980s, returns as part of the Decades #TBTB Menu and was also part of Taco Bell's Decades Menu in fall 2024.

The Caramel Apple Empanada, first introduced in early 2000s and discontinued in 2019, is on Taco Bell's Decades #TBTB menu. It was also part of 2024's Decades Menu.

McDonald's brought back its Fried Apple Pie in honor of America's 250th birthday. The Fried Apple Pie was discontinued in 1992 and replaced it with a healthier baked version.

The company called the drinks a "seasonal blend (that) mixes notes of apple and caramel flavoring with McDonald's bold blend coffee, topped with salted caramel flavored whipped cream and bits of apple pie crumble" in its statement.
