What started off as a wholesome little skincare addition in the form of horror-movie, Purge-style masks has since grown into something of a phenomenon, from hats with built-in red light said to stimulate hair follicles, to full-body bed sessions, and even exercise classes designed to target cellular recovery.

While skincare and sexual wellness have traditionally existed in separate circles, you can always count on the Swedes to bring a splash of wellness to all corners of life. They previously brought intimate skincare into the mix, with Swedish brand Deo Doc dropping an award-winning range designed by female gynaecologists and doctors specifically for women.

Now, LELO, the luxury pleasure brand that has been around for more than 20 years, is drawing on its Swedish heritage with the launch of what it describes as the first red-light intimate wellness massager.

The brand's new MONA Spectra combines LED technology with targeted stimulation, bringing beauty and intimate wellness together as part of a more holistic approach to self-care, as attitudes towards sexual health continue to evolve.

And it seems we’re all pretty open to the idea.

Among the potential benefits of intimate red light therapy, the most appealing to those surveyed are enhanced blood circulation and sensitivity (34%), followed by supporting pelvic floor health, including during postpartum and menopause recovery (33%), and promoting tissue hydration and natural lubrication (30%).

Over a quarter (29%) are also drawn to the potential thermal effect, with the gentle warmth perceived as mimicking human touch, helping to relax the pelvic floor muscles and enhance comfort and overall experience.

The red light technology alongside the app's customisable light modes allows users to move beyond standard vibration patterns and tailor their wellness rituals with three distinct, UV-free light wavelengths: near-infrared light (850nm), green (525nm-535nm), and blue (465nm-475nm).

Essentially, red light therapy has officially gone from something we strap to our faces to making itself at home in our sex lives. There really is nowhere this wellness trend won’t go.
