While Cumia didn't apologize, he did try to clarify his comments, saying they were not racist and that his use of the word "savage," for example, was in reference to violent people and not Black people.

Gottfried apologized for his words, writing, "I meant no disrespect, and my thoughts are with the victims and their families."

She later apologized, calling her comments "not at all appropriate."
