Ridley Scott’s $80 million post-apocalyptic thriller dropped on 28 August and has since been panned by critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with Adam Nayman of The New Republic saying it was “cluttered with plot points and symbolic gimmicks,” which ultimately distracted viewers from the fact that the film “isn’t really about anything at all.” Meanwhile, Chris Klimek of Washington City Paper chimed in: “We’re left wondering why Scott wanted to make this movie.” Elordi plays Hig, a civilian pilot and former mechanic who survives a devastating global flu pandemic. The film also features the likes of Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, and Guy Pearce. For the blissfully unaware, the pop culture myth is that romantic partners of the Kardashian-Jenner clan face some sort of misfortune, from poor sports performance and public scandals to straight-up bad luck. One theorised: “Isn't it mind-blowing how Jacob's media presence has been completely swallowed whole since linking up with Kendall?” Another quipped: “Curse or not, that kind of movie isn't going to kill it in theaters. You need huge marketing, good reviews and/or word of mouth. None of that happened.” As a third joked: “I thought Kylie Jenner ended the curse? Courtside for every Knicks game. Celebrating with the team after playoff wins. NBA champions.” In the 2021 KUWTK Reunion Special, Jenner shared: “What I don't like about this narrative is that the blame is on us. I think the men need to take that responsibility.” “I think that we're all extremely giving and caring and loving women. And when there is a man in our lives, we, like, give everything to them, and as a family we all love them so much,” she continued, before adding: “Factually, it doesn't add up. It's almost offensive, personally.” Not to mention, the theory has widely been slammed as sexist and misogynistic, as it places the blame on women for the struggles of the men they date.
