President Donald Trump crossed out Lake Ontario on a map and wrote in “Lake America” for a TikTok video that could be one of his more juvenile stunts in the White House.

Trump doubled down on a previous threat to change the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America in an apparent hissy fit over his escalating trade war with Canada. On Thursday, he signed an executive order to make it more official.

LAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

“So this is Lake Ontario, in Canada and in the United States,” Trump said as he held up a map. “But we’re gonna make a little change. We’re gonna call it something different than Lake Ontario. We’re gonna call it Lake America. And all it takes is a good pen and some intelligence.”

Trump crossed out Lake Ontario and scribbled in “Lake America.”

“So Lake Ontario, that’s gone,” he said. “Lake America. So now we have a lake, and now we have a gulf, because we have the Gulf of America. Now we have Lake America, without the ‘of.’ Thank you very much, everybody. Enjoy Lake America.”

The president’s schoolboy-style vengeance belies the serious consequences of the trade fight, which will likely jack up prices on some goods even further.

He had previously threatened retaliation of some sort for smoke that recently drifted in from Canada’s wildfires.

Trump has also scuffled with Canadian officials over revenue or ownership sharing for a new international bridge linking Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit. Canada financed the building of it entirely.

On the first day of his second term, Trump signed an executive order in an attempt to rechristen the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.

That, too, was met with mockery.
