I Followed A Stranger On A Scooter Through Hoi An’s Backstreets For Food I Couldn’t Have Found Myself

Including a surprise banh mi that wasn’t even part of the itinerary. The Foodie Vespa Adventure is an experience offered exclusively for Four Seasons guests, costs $192 per person, and gives you a real-life glimpse into the Hoi An street food scene — without the wait times, long lines or research and planning required. Here's everything my husband and I ate on the Foodie Vespa Adventure. Can I just say these Vespas were so stylish and COMFORTABLE? There was a back rest, which made me feel more confident hands-free — as usually on the back of a Grab bike I'm holding on for dear life. We chatted with our tour guide and learned about her father's history as a fisherman, the impact COVID had on life in Vietnam and watched kids fly kites over the rice fields in the distance. It was a great way to connect with our tour guide ahead of the experience, and I loved it for that. The best tour guides are the ones who unashamedly help you get the photos you need to capture memories. Honestly, this is my favourite part about travelling to South East Asia full stop. White rose dumplings are a popular dish in Hoi An, but this restaurant was the OG place that started it all. We got a super quick demo on how to make them (which I failed miserably at) and then we tucked in. Talk about a VIP experience. To be real, this dish was a little spicy for me — but it was hands down my husband's favourite. We got a VIP entrance, no wait times, and even got to make a wish and release a lantern on the water. I had been eating plenty of bánh xèo my whole trip, but this one was so good it ruined every other version I've had. That's the best part about this curated tour — they take you to the best places to try all the street food. This was after I casually mentioned I hadn't had the chance to try bánh mì yet — so they secretly detoured to their favourite stall and came back with one for my husband and I to share. We felt so looked after! This is the most summer-friendly refreshing dessert I've ever had. The best part was loading it up with ice for coldness and crunch. Our stay and this tour were hosted by Four Seasons Resort The Nam Hai and Vespa Adventures. It's the kind of experience that makes the case for booking through your hotel instead of winging it — for one night, at least.
