“The time when my MIL said she wished my husband’s ex-girlfriend could be her daughter.” Reader, writer, thinker, and nerd about all things pop culture and feminism. Responses have been taken from threads 1, 2, 3, and 4. "How dare I send the police to her house! Her neighbors were all talking about her and it was my fault. That’s just the tip of the iceberg with that woman. As my kids got older they saw her for the monster she is and have cut her out of their lives. Nothing brings me as much joy as knowing I never have to see her again." — Critical_Flamingo665 "As of this week, it’s officially cured. After four-ish years of marriage. Eight years of dating. My husband was supportive and loving every step of the way. I forgive them for it, but god that still felt like a knife in the heart from them. No support, no one even doing a Google search on the condition. The only somewhat supportive one was my actual MIL who had a long talk about what I worry about with sex and what my vagina does. And she offered her advice and a bottle of Xanax lol." — Ash9260 "When I wanted to plan our rehearsal dinner for just our parents, sister and BIL, she wanted to invite her cousin and cousin's kids that my fiancé hadn’t seen in 15 years. I wanted it to be immediate family only, I had a 30-minute convo where I was essentially told my family is less important because I have a bigger family and that’s why these very distant relatives we didn’t really know should come. And they made plans to have two dinners (one with the cousins first) and then our rehearsal. Bonus fun fact, prior to this she had actually wanted us to try to un-invite these cousins after we sent the invites out. She tried to turn our wedding weekend into a small family reunion with these cousins. She even bailed on my getting ready room she wanted to be at initially, to take them on a hike the day of our wedding. Shortly after we got married, she started calling several times a week between 8:30-10 p.m. just to catch up with him. It was definitely taking a mental toll on me since those calls were taken in bed. The last straw was a call when she thought something “bad” was going to happen within 24 hours because of politics and nuclear war was imminent, so she wanted to buy tickets to New Zealand immediately and tried to talk my husband into going… 30-minute convo and I wasn’t mentioned once until the end. Like no, you can’t just take my husband to a different continent. I think there’s some deeper issues with her paranoia now, but still not ok." — Kallmekhalleesi Responses have been edited for length and clarity.
