Patrick Osborn had a simple explanation for being unable to contain himself while giving a recent weather forecast: “I got a fit of laughter that I was not able to control on air.”

That would be an understatement.

Osborn’s viral meltdown Sunday on WABI-TV in Bangor, Maine, included squealing, covering his mouth and moments where he sounded like a tape on fast-forward ― all in the futile hope of stopping his epic case of the giggles.

The merry meteorologist even attempted to continue the forecast off camera but that didn’t work either.

We can hear an overcome Osborn saying he’s sorry and “let me get it together.”

“Whatever happened to professionalism, Patrick?” anchor Josh Gabbard lightheartedly admonished him.

On Monday, Osborn explained to another colleague, Brian Sullivan, what prompted him to erupt. He said a prank he was playing on Gabbard backfired, causing a “Peanuts”-like “wah-wah-wah” sound effect to repeat over and over.

The cackle-fest then ensued.

“The rest is history, as they say,” Osborn explained. “At least I’ll be known for something.”
