Kura Oncology (KURA) stock soared on Aug. 25 after a regulatory filing confirmed that CEO Troy Wilson has loaded up on company shares. The chief executive bought 100,000 KURA shares in total for about $1.24 million this week, only days after his initial $1.11 million investment. Following today's rally, Kura Oncology shares are up more than 50% versus their recent low. Wilson's latest investment is bullish for KURA stock as it arrives at a time when the biotech firm's share price has already advanced significantly. In total, his One Fish Two Fish Revocable Trust now holds 479,194 of the company's shares. The chief executive's purchases are meaningful because they showcase his willingness to commit his own money even as the biotech stock moves higher. While insider buying doesn't guarantee future gains, it's often interpreted as a sign that those closest to the company's operations believe its equity is undervalued at current levels. Note that Kura Oncology has a history of closing September with an over 12% gain on average, a seasonal pattern that makes it even more attractive to own in the near term. Kura Oncology's recent stock price rally is backed by a stronger fundamental story, following the commercial launch of KOMZIFTI — its FDA-approved treatment for certain patients with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia. In the latest reported quarter, KOMZIFTI generated $9.1 million in net product revenue, up 57% sequentially, with new patient starts growing 35% to about 115. The treatment also captured a majority share of new patient starts in the relapsed/refractory NPM1-mutant AML menin-inhibitor class. Meanwhile, KURA expects $180 million in additional collaboration payments from Kyowa Kirin and believes its resources can fund the ziftomenib AML program through topline results from the first pivotal Phase 3 KOMET-017 trial, anticipated in 2028. Wall Street also remains largely bullish on Kura Oncology for the remainder of 2026. The consensus rating on KURA shares sits at "Strong Buy" currently, with the mean price target of about $32 indicating they could more than double in the months ahead.
