A new trading card game (TCG) shop in Shrewsbury has become a community hub for enthusiasts, with customers travelling from across the West Midlands to join in.

Owner Aydin Uyan said the shop's success had come through word of mouth after he spent several years on the scene selling cards at shows around the UK.

Uyan's shop Triple A Collectibles specialises in selling individual cards covering franchises including Pokémon, One Piece, Union Arena, Dragon Ball Z, Magic: The Gathering and Star Wars.

He told the BBC the community feel inside the premises was what set it apart.

"I was really busy on Saturday and a few of my regulars were in - I had one of them re‑sleeving cards, helping out," he said.

"I had one of them on the till for me, and I was just stood here helping."

Customers come in from as far as Birmingham and Walsall to trade, browse binders and look for the last card they need to complete a set.

Uyan said this contrasted with the atmosphere at card shows, where he still traded.

"At shows," he said, "it's predominantly people coming in with stacks of cash looking for big cards. In the shop, it's people looking for those £2 cards or trading up into the last card they need.

"People mostly ask for packs, but they're really hard to get. Singles are fairer - if you need a £4 card, you can buy the £4 card."

Among the rarest items currently in the shop is a One Piece card serialised to 1,500 copies and only obtainable through competitive play.

"It's a piece of history," Uyan said. The card is valued at about £1,200 to £1,300.

Social media had played a major role in the recent boom in trading cards, with influencers live-streaming pack openings, he added.

Uyan said he was proud of what the shop had become. "It's like my baby," he said. "Everyone helped to get it going, so it's that little bit more special."
