We Tried The New CookUnity Menu From Binging With Babish — Here Are Our Honest Thoughts

A heads-up: Tasty was provided with these meals for free, but we were under no obligation to write a positive review. General Tso's Chicken with Fried Rice: A mash-up of General Tso's and sesame chicken together with a specific breading technique to get the crunch just right. The Great American Pot Roast: The one with real sentimental weight. The veggies get roasted separately from the meat, which sounds like a small thing until you taste the difference it makes. Fried Chicken: Andrew’s self-declared "ultimate" version, which is also the recipe that won him his very first cooking competition. It comes with a sweet-and-spicy burnt honey sauce that he clearly still thinks about. Spicy Chili-Garlic Noodles: Andrew’s souped-up take on the viral noodle recipe with red miso, Sichuan chili crisp, ginger, garlic, and enough Sichuan peppercorns to make your lips tingle a little. Andrew's menu also offers a Marry Me Shrimp & Pappardelle and a Guinness Shepherd's Pie. However, they weren't available when we were taste-testing. Meg's take: This leans more toward a chicken parm cutlet than classic Southern fried chicken, with a slightly greasy finish. The included chili sauce ended up being the real star, though: sweet, spicy, and adding a lot of flavor to chicken that was fairly mild on its own. Milder than the name suggests, according to Meg, with noodles that stayed nicely chewy. She loved the umami and appreciated the generous amount of pork. Her one suggestion would be to add a vegetable that could round it out even more. Meg described it as a lighter take on your standard takeout order. The broccoli stayed bright green instead of going soft, the chicken pieces were generously sized without feeling greasy, and the sauce leaned sweet and mild. Meg's favorite, hands down. She described it as deeply nostalgic, the kind of meal that feels like it came from someone's grandmother's kitchen. A tender roast, smooth mashed potatoes with a light tang from the buttermilk, and a few carrots and celery for good measure.
