Jamie Lynn Spears addressed the ongoing rumors that her Nickelodeon show “Zoey 101” ended because she became pregnant at 16.

Appearing Tuesday on the “MOMARCHY” podcast, Spears, now 35, was asked to name something that people assume about her that’s completely wrong.

“If we’re talking about a concrete misconception, it would be that everybody thinks that ‘Zoey [101]’ ended because I got pregnant. And that is not true,” Spears said. “I’ve said it probably in every interview I’ve ever done and people still — they don’t understand it.”

Spears also noted that her eldest daughter, Maddie, 18, is frequently targeted on TikTok by fans of the show who accuse her of being the reason the Nickelodeon sitcom wrapped in 2008. The series first aired in 2005 and ran for four seasons.

“[Maddie’s] like, ’Oh, my top comments are always, ‘You’re the reason Zoey’s over. You’re the reason.’ She’s — and we laugh about them because they’re pretty … you got to laugh at these things because like, it’s pretty funny some of the things they say to her, but it’s just not the truth,” Spears said.

Spears told the podcast’s hosts, Tanya Nathan and Sarah Andrews, that the show had concluded by the time she became pregnant with Maddie with then-boyfriend Casey Aldridge; however, its final season had not yet aired on TV.

“That’s how it is in entertainment. A lot of people who aren’t in the business don’t understand,” she said. “[The fans] think we shoot it, it comes out. No, you shoot it, and it comes out, like, maybe the next year or something. So, I think that’s where people were confused, but we were wrapped. We were always wrapped, and there was never going to be another season.”

Spears said that while she was judged and criticized when she became pregnant as a teen, the birth of her first daughter was “a little bit of my saving grace because it gave me a direction.”

Spears split from Aldridge in late 2009. The exes briefly reconciled before breaking up for good in February 2010. Spears later married Jamie Watson in 2014; they welcomed their daughter, Ivey, in 2018.

Spears addressed rumors that her pregnancy caused the show’s demise in January 2019, when she posted a video of the show’s opening credits on Instagram to celebrate its 14th anniversary. She captioned the post: “Are you ready? 14 years later…still a jam #itdidNOTendbecauseofpregnancy #contractwasfinished.”

One fan commented on the post: “Oh wow you didn’t quit because you were pregnant, you waited this long tell us.”

“Nope,” Spears replied. “I went home to finish high school and was going to pursue movies.”
