Amylyx (AMLX) stock ripped higher on Tuesday after the pharmaceutical firm reported promising Phase 3 clinical trial data for its candidate drug, avexitide.

In its press release, AMLX said its avexitide, a first-in-class GLP-1 receptor antagonist for post-bariatric hypoglycemia, demonstrated a 55% reduction in hypoglycemic events in the Lucidity trial.

Following the explosive rally, Amylyx shares are trading at nearly 3x their price at the start of this year.

The Lucidity trial results represent a massive clinical and commercial milestone for Amylyx. The 78-participant study met not only the primary composite endpoint agreed upon with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) but also all of the secondary endpoints, proving avexitide's is effective in reducing life-threatening low blood sugar spikes in post-bariatric surgery patients.

Because there are currently no FDA-approved treatments for PBH, avexitide holds "Breakthrough Therapy" and "Orphan Drug" designations.

AMLX now plans to submit a new drug application (NDA) by the end of 2026, positioning itself for a commercial launch next year with a projected multi-year cash runway extending into 2028.

Investors are cheering Amylyx stock because its candidate drug maintained a clean safety profile as well during the Phase 3 trial.

While investing in a stock following a 60%+ single-day rally often carries near-term risk, the case for AMLX shares may be different following the release of the Lucidity trial results.

Now that the avexitide story has been de-risked, a clear runway toward commercialization in a high-unmet-need market warrants exposure to the pharma company at the current price.

With a balance sheet funded into 2028 and additional catalysts on the horizon, including pipeline expansion into long-acting GLP-1 antagonists, it's fair to treat Amylyx as a compelling growth opportunity.

Note that AMLX has a history of gaining nearly 22% in September, a seasonal trend that makes it even more attractive for the near term.

Investors could also take heart in the fact that Wall Street sees further upside in Amylyx over the next 12 months.

The consensus rating on AMLX stock sits at "Strong Buy," with price targets as high as $40 indicating potential for another 20% rally from here.
