“I’m a woman, raised with manners, and it disgusts me. I always say ’eww’ really loud.”

As a Senior Editor at BuzzFeed, I cover lifestyle topics including books, work and money, health, and home.

"Shoes on furniture!?!? FELONY. STRAIGHT TO JAIL."

"My grandmother always told me to scrape a bar of soap before doing something dirty, like gardening. It doesn't prevent any dirt, but it makes it so easy to get clean afterward. Combined with a nail scrub brush, cleaning up after gardening is so easy now.

Don't worry about the soap feeling irritating under your nails. The big chunks will fall out pretty quickly once you start working, but the soap will leave a film on your skin that prevents dirt from sticking. I've used this trick while I worked in a machine shop as well, and a lot of the materials I worked with would seep into my skin and not come out. Hot water and a nail brush are still necessary after dirty work, but my nails never have that stubborn dirt line when I scrape soap beforehand."

"Same with shower curtains! They need to be open to dry and not stink like mildew."

"Every man I've ever cohabited with who stands to pee said they didn't splatter pee everywhere. As the one who cleaned the bathroom, I can confirm they absolutely did.

Husband insists he doesn't. Don't know where all the piss down the front of the toilet is coming from, then."

"Right! I've got those plastic flossers everywhere. Home, coat pockets, work truck, and personal car."

"And then putting it on the kitchen countertop when they get home."

"I started doing this before the pandemic, and it made such a difference in the number of times I get sick in a season. Sometimes I don't get sick at all. Highly, highly recommend!"

"Yes. You take off your hard pants and put on soft pants at home. I can't bloody well relax in hard pants."

"Agreed. I used to bite my nails as a kid. I got pinworms when I was 9 and never did it again."

"And not using a tongue scraper. As a militant tongue scraper (I have several types, and have done it my whole life), I’m completely icked out every time I meet someone who doesn’t even know what it is."

"It genuinely infuriates me that my eldest sister and her partner (both nearly 30) don't cover their coughs or sneezes whatsoever. There have been multiple times when they sneeze close enough to me where I feel the mist. Her partner also constantly leaves used tissues on surfaces that we use for food and doesn't even wipe the surface with a disinfecting wipe."

"Thank you. Warehouses are disgusting, and it’s possible the items weren’t properly wrapped the whole time. Then that can was sitting on a store shelf, collecting dust and cough germs."
