GOP Nominee Torched For Offering Absurd Solution To Cope With Rising Gas Prices

Less than a day after her primary victory on Tuesday, critics online torched past comments by Minnesota’s Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, Michele Tafoya, in which she suggested that Americans deal with rising gas prices by taking fewer trips to Starbucks. When Tafoya, who spent years as an NFL sideline reporter for NBC and ABC, originally made the comments in March, the U.S. and Israel’s war on Iran had been raging for a little over two weeks, and Brent crude oil, the global benchmark for oil prices, was trading at well over $100 per barrel. Her comments resurfaced online this week as the average price for a gallon of regular gas continues to hover above $4. “I think right now at least just kind of keeping a stiff upper lip. Maybe you take one less trip to Starbucks and so that gas goes a little further. Until this thing is over and these gas prices come back down again, let’s just try to be patriots about this,” Tafoya said during a local radio show appearance. Gov. Peggy Flanagan (D). It’s $100+ per family each month. Plus another $100 to cover his tariffs. The average American family is lighting $200/month on fire for Trump’s policies before inflation costs. https://t.co/ijVqmwT1cL No one: Republicans on affordability: “Drink less Starbucks” https://t.co/6PVojvo861 Good start, Michele. Keep on this. https://t.co/J2Or572HGr “Just be patriotic” is Republican for “shut the fuck up and pay more.” https://t.co/L2voODDRcY Ah there it is. Every time. There wasn’t a Starbucks out in the town I stopped by last week. No bus stops or subway. No, just people barely surviving because they can’t afford to drive to work now. When you’re rich it’s an inconvenience. When you’re just trying to make ends meet… https://t.co/SqgZsoxsIL I remember when Republicans mocked this type of idea. July 31, 2008"Yesterday, he suggested we put air in our tires to save on gas. My friends, let's do that, but do you think that's enough to break our dependence on Middle Eastern oil? I don't think so." -- John McCain https://t.co/eQvbxzpGz5 MAGA, be a patriot. Until gas goes down, take less trips to Starbucks, skip a few days of eating, don't buy that porch couch, if you get cancer drink lots of water, sell a kidney, if you need daycare - send them to war, start selling meth again, but DO NOT cancel your cult dues. https://t.co/01sPajmMoc I expect the media to cover this just as vociferously as they covered Joe Biden (accurately) explaining global inflation and our enviable soft-landing. https://t.co/NKb4A4Qft3 pic.twitter.com/elt4biZDuM .@Michele_Tafoya Thank you, Michele. Any other sound advice for millions of Americans who don't go to Starbucks but have to go to work, and choose between groceries, rent, and medicine? https://t.co/63fGIljrU7 By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
