(NewsNation) — An upcoming rally featuring Rep. Max Miller and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna has been canceled after organizers said a threat made the event a security risk.

Shannon Burns, chairman of the Strongsville, Ohio, GOP, announced the cancellation of Monday's SAVE America Act Rally, saying organizers made the decision after consulting with law enforcement and the venue.

"The number and nature of the threats received have made the event untenable," Burns wrote on social media. "We cannot responsibly expose our guests, attendees, volunteers, venue staff, or law enforcement officers to an unacceptable safety risk."

Burns called the cancellation an example of political intimidation, arguing that threats "succeeded in shutting down a peaceful political gathering focused on election integrity and ensuring that only American citizens vote."

The SAVE America Act, formally known as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, has been a Republican-backed proposal focused on requiring proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections.

Burns said the cancellation wouldn't change the group's broader political goals.

They may have forced us to cancel Monday's event, but they have not canceled our movement," Burns said. "They will not silence us. They will not weaken our commitment to election integrity. And they will not stop us from fighting to pass the SAVE America Act."
