Two trading days after that, up to 911.5 million insider shares become eligible to sell. Whoever built that calendar deserves a raise… or an SEC subpoena. Hey, since he works for Elon Musk, let's go with both. The mechanics are almost elegant. SpaceX structured its lock-up in stages rather than the standard 180-day cliff, and the trigger for the first tranche is the earnings report itself. 20% of eligible insider shares unlock two days after the print, with another 10% freed if the stock closes at least 30% above IPO price for 5 of the 10 sessions beforehand [it's ok, go back and read that again]. Which means the people with the clearest possible view of how the quarter actually went get their exit ramp before the rest of the market has finished reading the disclosures. That would be an interesting "structural quirk" on its own, but it gets more interesting once you add that short interest has climbed to roughly a third of the public float, and that Musk, who has never once in his life resisted talking his own book, posted Monday that the "survival probability" of firms holding meaningful short positions in SpaceX "is very low." Threatening short sellers days before an event that hands his own insiders a legal selling window isn't new behavior for Elon, but this time it's… unusually well-timed. One stock. The stock, for what it's worth, popped 7% Tuesday on the earnings-date news, though it's still down nearly half from June's $225.64 high, and Musk's net worth has slid from north of $1 trillion to a comparatively grounded $786 billion. Elsewhere: a Falcon 9 Starlink launch flew Tuesday after Monday's scrub, Starship gets another shot Thursday, and Tesla reports Wednesday, with investors asking about the Terafab chip plant Musk's two companies are building together in Texas. But all of that would posit that fundamentals will mean much on August 6.
