A photo shared by US Senator Mitch McConnell showing him alive and recovering after a fall has led to widespread speculation about its authenticity, with some claiming without evidence it is AI-generated.

The 84 year-old Republican recently revealed he had been hospitalised after suffering a fall and contracting mild pneumonia.

It followed questions over his health after he hadn't been seen in public for weeks.

BBC Verify's Jake Horton explains how we can tell the photo is genuine.
