For many, this reality is closer than they think. As BuzzFeed's politics lead, my job is to do the doomscrolling for you. "For reference, I live in Rhode Island and work a full-time job and a part-time job at minimum wage each. I have taken the appropriate steps so far to reduce my stuff to a few totes that can fit in a 5x5 storage and prepare myself to live in my car for the next few months." "I have looked around at my community resources and other options, but I have conditioned myself to just move forward with this plan I calculated, and hope my savings are enough... to [eventually] move on from my home state to another affordable area. Just asking people to wish me luck or any advice." Note: Their post has been lightly edited for clarity. "It is not perfect (cleanliness, neighbors are weird), but I live with a nice... lady and her adult son. It is the place that is keeping me warm this cold winter. This could be an option to look into, because I know I couldn’t afford an apartment on my own either." "I’m scared too. I just wanted you to know that you’re not alone. I’m sending you peaceful and positive vibes." "Churches will allow you to shower (if they're open), and help with other resources, even if you're not religious. GO! And get some help. Be careful eating out, it adds up. Stay warm, stay hydrated, stay hopeful, you're going to make it! Don't sleep with the car running." "When I was homeless we had a van. It fit a queen bed, no problem. We built a plywood shelf for it to sit on, and we had the floor for storage. It really wasn't THAT bad. Summer sucked." "It’s going to be really uncomfortable for a while, but you seem like a really strong-willed person. Don’t forget about various resources out there. It may not be a lot, but something is better than nothing." Considering this, what are your thoughts about the subreddit and Perfect-Habit-6248's post? Let us know in the comments.
