It has a lot of stability on uneven surfaces, and your foot stays in the sandal unlike some where your foot twists and slides around in it. I cannot wear a shoe with firm contours due to a foot deformity I developed after years of walking on cement floors in my job as a nurse. This one is soft and cushioned. I know the manufacturer recommends only cleaning it with a brush and soapy water but I throw mine in the washer, cold water gentle cycle, then air dry and they come out like new.
