White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller marked Independence Day by suggesting that President Donald Trump is a chosen one selected by God himself.

“It is impossible to review the events of the last decade and conclude that it is anything other than divine providence that Donald J. Trump is the President of the United States on the year of America 250, July 4th, 2026,” he wrote on X on Saturday.

Trump himself might agree.

In 2019, he looked to the sky and declared, “I am the chosen one.” He later walked that back after criticism and said he had been joking. Earlier this year, he posted an image of himself as Jesus healing the sick, but deleted it after criticism and claimed the image showed him as a doctor.

Miller is widely considered the architect of Trump’s most divisive policies, especially the administration’s crackdown on migrants.

When the Supreme Court last week affirmed birthright citizenship, Miller responded by suggesting the U.S. could block pregnant travelers.

“You have to now think very carefully about who you let into your country, even on a temporary basis,” he said.

Miller is also known for his wildly over-the-top praise for his boss, saying in May, for example, that Trump was building an “extraordinary paradise” and that the president is responsible for a “national miracle” on border security and public safety.

Now, he’s gone even further by claiming that Trump’s presidency is the work of “divine providence.”

Critics raised holy hell on X:

Stephen Miller, for some reason trying to give divine providence a bad name. https://t.co/NAhQX3Ta2Y

Far more offensive than anything Mamdani said. https://t.co/girkeuv2GE

Guy calling for sterilizing immigrants and rounding up the mentally disabled now saying Trump is a god king https://t.co/eQBbANDXrl

just say no to drugs https://t.co/JBE7DGywnn

Trump’s Presidency is a gift from god? Same god who sent the swarms of locusts and the plagues of Egypt? That figures. https://t.co/VEqhqciADS

David Koresh never had such loyal cult followers. https://t.co/xOt0FHH2nJ

Easy to dismiss this as the delusional fevered rantings of a diseased mind. But the disease is rampant at the epicenter of the most powerful government ever known on the planet. We should be far more alarmed than we are. Far more. https://t.co/A5WJCf2HOP

Somebody needs to do a wellness check on this guy. https://t.co/cYd8bJlT5t

Funny how “God chose the president” only applies when your candidate wins. When Obama or Biden won, was God overruled? This isn’t theology. It’s just delusion dressed up as "divine providence." https://t.co/UxHt19os6S
