Missing Milwaukee teen resurfaces 4 years after going missing

(NewsNation) — Milwaukee police say a girl who disappeared four years ago when she was 15 was recently found safe but did not provide details.

Joniah Walker went missing June 23, 2022, after she left home and did not return. Her case was publicized by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, which released surveillance video of the girl walking with a large backpack. Walker’s family said the girl suffered from medical issues.

Police said Walker was found safe May 25 of this year, WISN 12 News reports. They declined to share additional information, such as where she was located or if she was with anybody.

“I think right now, the family needs their privacy,” state Rep. Shelia Stubbs, an advocate for the families of missing and murdered Black women, told FOX6 in Milwaukee on Tuesday. “I know there are so many questions, but I think as time goes by, when they are ready to tell their story, they will tell it.”

Wisconsin ranked first in the nation for the highest rate of homicide among Black women and girls in 2020, the station reported.
