“It’s just a pretty special group that we have… It feels like a family.”

Hi, I'm Tafi - I'm currently a Senior Editor, and when I'm not editing, onboarding contributors, or working with the photo team, I get emotional about food, tennis, and soccer.

The United States Men's soccer team is off to a flying start in the 2026 World Cup, and I got to chat with one of the team's star players, Christian Pulisic!

The 27-year-old Pulisic plays club football for AC Milan but is fully focused on the national team. Since America is one of the host countries, even more eyes than usual are on the team to do well, but something tells me Christian and his teammates are up for the challenge. He and the rest of the team face off against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday in San Francisco for what should be an amazing time.

Chatting with Christian was so much fun. We got into how he's feeling about the tournament, the energy he hopes to see, and how he's teamed up with Wells Fargo to help fans enjoy themselves throughout a tournament that's already had a fair share of twists, turns, and heartwarming moments.

Note: This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

BuzzFeed: How are you feeling about the start of the World Cup?

Christian: Having my family and friends around, it's just really exciting times. So, we're just really excited for this opportunity.

BuzzFeed: The fans are such a big part of the World Cup and the culture around it. How do you feel Wells Fargo/Visa and the ad campaign have brought fans into the excitement?

Christian: Yeah, working with Visa has been incredible. I'm a Visa/Wells Fargo cardholder. It's been a fun partnership. They're really doing so much to change the game around the World Cup and US soccer. It's so fun working with them, and it's an exciting summer.

BuzzFeed: What gets you hyped up before a match? What's your playlist?

Christian: Yeah, I mean, I switch it up so much to be honest. Like right now, I've definitely been listening to Drake's new album so much. That's been getting me hype before the game. Sometimes, I'm in a more relaxed mood. I'm listening to country like Ella Langley or Morgan Wallen. Kind of depends on the mood I'm in, to be honest.

BuzzFeed: It is interesting that this year the World Cup is being hosted by three countries, therefore multiple cities. Is there a particular city or stadium that you're looking forward to playing in?

Christian: It's pretty special that it's in the US. Obviously, two of our games in the group are in LA. Seattle is such a fun, such a good soccer city. I played there once or twice before. The support's always incredible. Hopefully, we can see some other places around the country if we keep advancing.

BuzzFeed: I was watching the ad campaign and was reminded of the last time I was in a stadium. With the Wells Fargo cash back, I was wondering about your experience as a fan and what your go-to stadium snack is? What's your go-to order?

Christian: Oh, man. I don't know, I love some good chicken tenders and fries. That kind of does it for me. Pretty simple. Either that or a hot dog, a classic stadium hot dog.

BuzzFeed: That's my order. That's how you test a stadium's food! Is there anything you'd like to tell the fans?

Christian: I would say it's a pretty special group that we have. I mean, we're always doing stuff together, even off the pitch. It feels like a family. We're constantly playing cards, and we're going to see movies. We're doing a lot of different, fun things together just to keep the vibes high and enjoy our time together, and then it feels like when you're on the field together, it feels even more natural. It's a really close-knit bunch of guys, and I hope they can get behind us and the US.

Team USA seems to be locked in, so wishing the best of luck to Christian and the US Men’s National Team in their game against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday!!!
