Belfast disorder: Man charged with attempted murder and arson

A glider bus was set on fire during violent unrest in Belfast on 9 June A 29-year-old man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder following riots in east Belfast. Christopher McLaughlin from Devon Drive also faces a charge of arson endangering life at a home in the east of the city. He also faces a count of arson endangering life after a Glider bus was set on fire during the disorder. Violence broke out in the streets of Belfast and sporadically across Northern Ireland after footage of a violent knife attack was widely shared on social media earlier this month. Cars and houses were set on fire on McMaster street in Belfast At Belfast Magistrates Court on Tuesday, the charges were read out. The first count set out the attempted murder of Trynos Setete on 9 June. No further details of the alleged offences were given. There was no application for bail and Christopher McLaughlin will appear again via videolink on 28 July.
