Keke Palmer Gives BET A Piece Of Her Mind In The Middle Of The BET Awards

Keke Palmer wasn’t afraid to speak her mind during Sunday’s BET Awards in Los Angeles. Host Druski gleefully razzed guests as he made his way around the VIP audience, but then Palmer swiftly flipped the script when he started approaching her with a catcall. Immediately, the star of “I Love Boosters” stood up and shut him down, saying, “I don’t need none of that.” After some banter back and forth about Druski’s spot on Forbes magazine’s Top Creators list, Palmer’s patience was wearing thin. “You’re doing too much. This should’ve been my gig,” she said jokingly, after grabbing the mic to give the YouTube comedian a taste of his own medicine. “Why the hell would they have you host?” she went on. “This is the problem with BET.” Keke Palmer tells Druski: “This should’ve been my gig. In March, the entertainer ignited intense backlash for plastering on white makeup and donning a blonde wig in a video titled “How Conservative Women in America Act.” Though the sketch didn’t say if Druski was impersonating anyone specific, many clocked his drag persona’s uncanny likeness to Erika Kirk, the pyrotechnic-happy widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The comic was decried by right-wing influencers, Fox News and Sen. Ted Cruz, who called the bit “beneath contempt.” Kirk appeared to address the sketch in a social media video in late April, where she complained about being mocked by comedians in “whiteface,” among other slights.
