A man has died after entering the water at a popular Welsh beach during record June temperatures.

Police said they were called to Aberavon beach in Neath Port Talbot at about 16:25 BST on Wednesday to reports of a man needing medical assistance in the water.

Coastguard officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived but the 50-year-old from Cilfrew was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and his next of kin has been informed, South Wales Police said.
