Trump Says It’s ‘Strange’ To Want Accountability For Iran School Bombing

President Donald Trump said Wednesday he doesn’t plan to hold anyone accountable for the bombing of a school full of Iranian children on the first day of the Iran war, expressing surprise at a reporter for even asking. The White House initially denied the incident had even occurred, then blamed the media for falling for Iranian propaganda. U.S. military investigators, however, found that U.S. forces were likely responsible for the deadly bombing. “It’s such a strange question to be asked,” Trump said, standing onstage with other Trump officials at the G7 summit in France, noting that the incident happened “a long time ago.” (It happened at the end of February.) NYT: Can you now say whether you will hold anyone in your administration accountable for the strike on a school that killed more than 100 children?TRUMP: No. It's such a strange question to be asked. It's a long time ago. Mistakes are made. I would ask Pete Hegseth that question. The country’s ambassador to the U.N. said that 150 students died in the strike on the girls’ school in southern Iran. Trump seemed to think the deadly bombing — which would be considered a war crime under international humanitarian law if it were deliberate — was OK because it was an accident. “Nobody did that on purpose,” Trump replied to the reporter. “Mistakes are made,” he continued. “War is nasty.” The president returned to the subject during the next question with a bizarre brag about how perceptive he is. “Bad things happen in war. War is a nasty place,” Trump added. “I see it, maybe better than anybody has ever seen it.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
