Why France’s Football Team Has Fashion TikTok In A Chokehold

It’s not just the football getting attention... France’s World Cup arrivals have fashion fans zooming in on every designer bag in sight. France is set to score more than just goals at this year's World Cup, because the national team has unintentionally pulled a whole new audience into the tournament for one very cunty reason. Ahead of France’s face-off with Senegal tonight (16 June), fashion fans are currently fully invested in how they’ve been pulling up. I mean, it is France we're talking about. Plenty of people who wouldn't normally tune into a match might not know the names of every player, but thanks to stylist Lynn Harries (@lynnharries), they definitely know how the team are travelling. In a TikTok video that's racked up over 1.5 million views, Harries broke down the national team’s luxury bags – and let's just say the collective value could probably get you on the property ladder in some parts of the country. In the process, he’s also drawn in a whole new crowd, now keeping check on how the other World Cup teams are showcasing their style. Arguably, the star of the show is Marcus Thuram, who touched down in the US carrying a rich green Chanel x Pharrell XXL Flap Bag from the pair's 2019 collaboration. The limited-edition piece originally retailed in the thousands and now pops up on resale sites for eye-watering amounts. Then there's Ousmane Dembélé, who arrived with a black leather Hermès Haut à Courroies, better known as the HAC. The bag, which can fetch tens of thousands and dates all the way back to 1892, was originally designed to transport equestrian gear. Casual. Midfielder Rayan Cherki also got the Hermès memo, opting for a smaller HAC in a creamy beige shade that could reportedly set you back around £20,000 ($26,000). Elsewhere, Maxence Lacroix turned up with Bottega Veneta's Andiamo Messenger in Intrecciato leather, complete with the brand's signature knot detail. If you're wondering how much that one costs, try £4,370 ($5,900). Adrien Rabiot completed the lineup with a Louis Vuitton monogram duffle, sticking to a more understated luxury travel choice compared to some of the louder designer moments elsewhere in the squad. Honestly, if France keeps this up, they might just turn tunnel arrivals into their own fashion week.
