President Trump called for Rep. Jamie Raskin’s (D-Md.) expulsion from Congress on Thursday afternoon and claimed the lawmaker would “be in jail” if not for a pardon from former President Biden. Trump responded on Truth Social to a post from conservative commentator Mark Levin, who warned that the Maryland Democrat was “already leading a plot to impeach the President if the Democrats take the House” in November. “Jamie Raskin, a Loser in Life, who worked endlessly during my First Term to impeach me, and failed miserably, wasting the Country’s money, time, and effort, will guaranteed be trying to do it again, despite one of the most successful Presidencies in History,” the president wrote Thursday afternoon. Raskin was part of the House’s select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, and he supported the effort to impeach Trump on charges related to the riots. Biden pardoned Raskin and other committee members ahead of Trump’s second inauguration, after Trump suggested that lawmakers on this panel “should go to jail.” “He spent time on the Unselect Committee of Political Hacks and Thugs, and was rebuffed on that, just as he has been rebuffed on Impeachment, and many other things,” the president continued in his social media post. “If Biden didn’t give him a pardon, he’d be in jail right now! Something should be done about people like this who do bad things, but always come up on the short end because of their illegal or unscrupulous behavior, and hurt our Country in the process. “I agree with Mark Levin when he says to, EXPEL THE BUM,” he added. “Congress can never be great with people like this, who suffer massively from Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS), casting their vote of HATE!” Raskin responded to the post in an interview with MS NOW, saying Trump is “obviously having nightmare flashbacks about impeachment.” “I’d like to tell the president, since he apparently is listening to me this week, there’s a very easy way to not get impeached,” he told Chris Hayes on Thursday. “Stop committing impeachable offenses, stop committing high crimes and misdemeanors,” the lawmaker continued. “Don’t go to war and usurp the powers of Congress to declare war. That’s up to us. Don’t spend money in a way different from how Congress has appropriated money. Don’t impose illegal taxes and tariffs on the American people without congressional consent. That’s up to us. Raskin added, “So, the president needs a basic constitutional primer.” Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
