Inflation hit a three-year high last month thanks to rising gas prices and a 4.2% increase in the cost of consumer goods compared to last year.

Millions of Americans face an affordability crisis as a result, and President Donald Trump says he loves it.

“I love the inflation,” the president said in the Oval Office Wednesday, interrupting a reporter before they could mention the actual data.

“No, I love it. The numbers were great,” Trump said. [Editor’s note: The numbers were not great]. “You know what I really love? I love the inflation.”

In a train of thought that’s hard to parse, Trump then proceeded to explain that high inflation is good because the U.S. has been “taking out millions of barrels of oil” from Iran in secret.

“I can say it now — something you didn’t know,” Trump said. “Did you know we’ve been taking out millions of barrels of oil? Nobody knows it. You know who doesn’t know about it? Iran, until right now.”

Never one to play his cards close, Trump then proceeded to explain exactly how the U.S. concealed the operation.

“We took out, the other night, 22 ships. Late at night, with no lights,” he said. “Because they don’t have any radar, because we blasted the crap out of it. We took out — that’s why oil’s $85 a barrel. You take a look.”

One would think Trump would be more concerned about inflation given the rising cost of his $200 million ― wait, no, actually $400 million... wait, nope: actually $1 billion-plus ballroom.
