(NewsNation) — Ahead of its official opening, the Obama Presidential Center has invited President Donald Trump to tour the new museum on Chicago’s South Side. “When our visitors come, they will see a spectacular campus,” Obama Foundation CEO Valerie Jarrett told USA Today. “If Trump would like to come and visit it himself, we would welcome him and give him a tour.” Jarrett made the comments during a media preview earlier this week, following Trump’s past criticisms of the center. Obama Presidential Center worked to woo South Side residents “Illinois is spending hundreds of millions of dollars trying to bail out Obama’s badly delayed and tremendously over-budget ‘library.’ The neighborhood is angry as hell. It is a total disaster!” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Feb. 22. The center — which includes a ticketed museum, civic center, cafe and restaurant, garden, athletic center and a Chicago Public Library — cost about $850 million to complete over roughly a decade. Trump also posted an edited image in May depicting the center as a trash bag in a can. The Obama Presidential Center is set to open to the public June 19, Juneteenth.
