Actor Nick Pasqual ― who appeared on “How I Met Your Mother” and other television series ― was sentenced to prison Tuesday for the stabbing of his ex-girlfriend, makeup artist Allie Shehorn.

Pasqual, 36, received a sentence of 32 years to life after being found guilty of attempted murder; first-degree residential burglary with person present; and injuring a spouse, cohabitant, fiancé, boyfriend, girlfriend or child’s parent, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.

Prosecutors said the actor broke into Shehorn’s home in the Shadow Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles shortly before 4:30 a.m. on May 23, 2024, and proceeded to stab her more than 20 times.

Pasqual and Shehorn began dating shortly after being introduced on the set of Zack Snyder’s 2023 film “Rebel Moon ― Part One: A Child of Fire,” per People.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Shehorn had filed a restraining order against Pasqual just days before the attack after detailing past incidents of physical and sexual assault. Although a judge had approved Shehorn’s order, it’s unclear if Pasqual had been served at the time of the incident.

“When I was lying on the floor in a pool of my own blood, I remembered wondering if this was how my life was going to end,” she said in her victim impact statement Tuesday, according to ABC7. “I was terrified, I was in pain.”

Addressing Pasqual directly, she added: “You, who I had once trusted, decided my life was something that you could take away.”

Pasqual immediately fled California after the attack and was ultimately detained by authorities at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Texas. Shehorn was hospitalized in intensive care and underwent 14 hours of surgery for injuries to her throat, back, chest and wrists.

In a statement issued to USA Today and other outlets, Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman praised Shehorn for her courage in appearing “before her abuser in court to testify about the brutality she endured.”

He went on to note: “Her trial testimony was crucial in securing a guilty verdict so Mr. Pasqual could no longer be free to hurt anyone else.”

Pasqual, who reportedly plans to appeal the ruling, was given a brief opportunity to address the court Tuesday after his sentencing.

“This is a burden that I will carry for the rest of my life, as I am filled with deep remorse ― a remorse matched only by the gratitude I have that she’s still alive,” he said, as seen in footage obtained by the California Post. “I thank God every day that Allie still has the opportunity to share her creativity with the world.”

As a makeup artist, Shehorn recently worked on “Obsession,” and appeared on the red carpet at a special screening for that film last month in Los Angeles. Her other recent credits include the 2024 musical adaptation of “Mean Girls,” starring Reneé Rapp and Angourie Rice.
