There’s nothing wrong with occasionally spending a sunny afternoon in front of the TV and the fan. Post approved and edited by BuzzFeed Community Team This is probably one of the all-time best summer movies. It's a story about four best friends who share a pair of jeans throughout the summer to stay connected. It's about friendship, love, and the challenges that come with growing up; the perfect summer film to watch with your friends. Also, the cast can't be beat, starring Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera, and Amber Tamblyn. Being a twin myself, this was always one of my favorite movies growing up. Identical twins Annie and Hallie, who were separated at birth due to their parents' divorce, meet at a summer camp and ultimately discover they are twin sisters living opposite lives on opposite sides of the world. Through a lot of scheming, they decide to swap lives: Annie goes to live with her all-American dad she's never met, and Hallie lives with her rich British designer mother she's never met, in a plan to get their parents back together. The ultimate coming-of-age, treasure-hunting adventure that should be on everyone's list of favorite films. When a group of friends discovers a pirate map in Mikey's attic, they follow it to treasure to help save his home from property developers planning to destroy it. They face a series of obstacles along the way, paired with hilarious humor and friendship. Of course, this wouldn't be a summer movie list without the top summer film of 2023, whose global impact took over movie screens and social media worldwide. This film truly portrayed a beautiful story of what it means to be human and a woman. Its emotional impact resonates deeply, exploring our strengths and flaws through a plastic doll as she discovers what it feels like to be "real" for the first time. With the fun soundtrack, bright colors, and star-studded cast, it's such a fun summer film to watch year after year. There is so much to love about this summery romantic comedy. It's definitely been a fan favorite since its release back in 2008, and is a staple for many summer movie nights. Taking place in Greece, a young woman has her wedding at an independent hotel run by her mother, who had quite the romantic past. After reading her mom's old diary, the bride invites the three men who could potentially be her father to celebrate her nuptials. It is a musical as well, featuring an incredible ABBA soundtrack that just hits different in summer. Luca, although still somewhat "new," is one of my all-time favorite Disney films. It's a story about a young sea monster who meets a boy who takes him to land for the first time in a beautiful Italian coastal town. The graphics are amazing, and it has the ultimate summer vibe. They meet a girl, and the three of them become best friends and enter a competition to win a Vespa, working together while hiding the fact that the boys aren't human. It's a touching story of friendship and family, and discovering how much of the world there is to explore. Stand by Me is such a memorable coming-of-age adventure film about a group of young boys. When they find out a stranger was killed in their town, they embark on a journey to go see the dead body. The adventure represents themes of friendship and the realities of growing up that they are forced to face. Despite the context, it's a lighthearted movie to watch in the summer, with deeper symbolism. This is such a fun, nostalgic summer film for anyone looking for a little whimsy and magic. Two young girls discover a mermaid washed ashore, and they take her under their wing as they help her win the heart of her lifeguard crush. This fantasy film follows the two best friends and the mermaid as their lives change, with a heartwarming and sweet story about friendship. Call Me by Your Name takes place in the summer of 1983, when 17-year-old Elio is spending time in Italy with his family. He meets a man interning for his father, and the two blossom a romance over the summer. This film has an emotional and passionate storyline and all the lounging-in-the-sun aesthetics you could want. Lastly, Grease has to make the list as arguably one of the most iconic films, and it makes for a perfect summer rewatch. It has the perfect mixture of young romance, great musical numbers, and that perfect '50s high school summer feeling, where I'm nostalgic for something I wasn't even alive for yet.
