The new three-part docuseries is available on TNT Sports and HBO Max “My hope is that viewers see not only the toughness of the Dakar Rally, but the resilience of the people behind it, and maybe even feel inspired to chase something they love with the same determination.” – Sara PriceEven if you follow Dakar Rally closely, there is no way you truly know what happens behind the scenes until you watch Sara Price: Chasing Dakar. That became obvious during an exclusive screening hosted by Warner Bros. Discovery and Jaguar Land Rover ahead of the release of the new three-part docuseries following Defender Rally’s 2026 Dakar campaign. And honestly? Even knowing the results, I still found myself completely invested. The series does something many motorsport documentaries struggle to achieve. It makes you care deeply about the people behind the race, not just the competition itself. At the centre of the story is Sara Price, one of off-road racing’s most recognisable names. Before moving into four-wheel competition, Price built her reputation in motocross, winning 17 national championships before eventually chasing the dream of competing at Dakar. But Sara Price: Chasing Dakar quickly shows that getting to Dakar is one thing. Surviving it is something entirely different. The documentary follows Defender Rally’s debut in the Stock class at the 2026 Dakar Rally alongside teammates Stéphane Peterhansel and Rokas Baciuška. Across three episodes, viewers are given extraordinary behind-the-scenes access to one of the toughest events in motorsport. The series pulls viewers so deeply into the experience that you begin to feel like part of the Defender Rally team navigating Dakar alongside them. You feel the exhaustion. You feel the pressure. You feel the uncertainty. And when things begin to go wrong, you genuinely feel the emotional weight inside the team.Episode one, Nothing is Given, immediately sets the tone. The series reveals the sacrifices Price made to reach Dakar, including selling her home and draining her savings to continue pursuing her racing career. Then Dakar strikes. What should have been a breakthrough moment with Defender Rally quickly turns into disaster after Price becomes stranded just 100km into the 8,000km race. And that is where the documentary becomes difficult to stop watching.By episode two, Won’t Back Down, the emotional toll of Dakar becomes increasingly clear. Repairs, penalties, marathon stages and setbacks begin piling up as the series exposes just how brutal rally raid racing really is.But despite the pressure, the documentary never loses sight of its human side. You begin understanding why Dakar has such a grip on the people who compete in it.By the time episode three, A Race of Two Halves, arrives, the emotional investment is fully there. The series balances the danger and unpredictability of Dakar’s dunes with a surprisingly personal look at the relationships and resilience inside the Defender Rally team. That may ultimately be the documentary’s greatest strength. It feels accessible.Even if you know little about Dakar Rally, the storytelling makes it easy to connect with the personalities involved. You cannot help but feel the rush of competition while also becoming attached to the people trying to survive it.And that is why I genuinely believe this series could bring a whole new audience to Dakar Rally. Sara Price herself described the documentary as an opportunity to reflect on the highs, lows and sacrifices that shaped her journey.“Motorsport has shaped my life in ways I’m still discovering, with the highs, the lows, the people who believed in me, and the lessons that I learnt the hard way,” she said.Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Europe EVP Scott Young believes the emotional depth behind the competition is what makes the series compelling.“The Dakar Rally is known for its brutal and exhilarating races across some of the planet’s most inhospitable environments, pushing teams and drivers to the absolute limit,” Young said. “As a global motorsport broadcaster committed to shining a light on these stories, we’re excited to go beyond the race action.”And that is exactly what this documentary does.It goes beyond the race itself. It captures the pressure, sacrifice, setbacks and resilience behind one of the toughest events in motorsport, while reminding viewers why people continue chasing challenges that seem almost impossible.Sara Price: Chasing Dakar premiered from 15 May on TNT Sports and HBO Max in the UK and Ireland, with wider international releases across Warner Bros. Discovery platforms to follow.
