As a Deputy Editorial Director for BuzzFeed’s shopping team, I love to get into the weeds of why a product’s worth the money by deep diving into customer reviews, and product-testing as much as possible. Hair removal is annoying enough without ingrown hairs popping up like they own the place. If those unwelcome spots tend to make an appearance on your body, here are some products that gave some reviewers relief so you too can also treat the spots and let you move on with your day (and your skin-baring summery plans). Promising review: "For YEARS I have had red, angry skin and ingrown hairs from shaving almost daily. Within TWO days, my skin looks healthy, beautiful, and smooth. All I did differently was scrubbing (hard) with this. It’s literal magic. My skin feels soft and amazing everywhere. I’ve used it with my normal body wash and some scrubs, but I’m telling you to just buy it!!!" —Amazon Customer Bellanomi is a small biz specializing in skincare and the net sponge inspired by traditional African traditions. Promising review: "10/10. I’ve been looking for something to exfoliate my skin (especially the bikini area), and nothing has worked. No topical things, no dry brushes, nothing. But this has brought ingrowns to the surface easily. Much better, and my skin feels amazingly clean after using this. I got one for my husband as well, and I’m sharing this for everyone because it’s that good." —Cheyenne Holyfield Get it from Amazon for $8.99 (available in 16 colors) or a four-pack for $24.19. Check out a TikTok of the Briotech spray in action. Promising review: "I found a dermatologist video recommending hypochlorous acid to prevent red bumps on your inner thighs after shaving. I thought I would give it a shot before going on vacation. This product far exceeded my expectations. I have been using it on my inner tighs and bikini area after shaving to prevent ingrown hairs. It worked like magic, even when going to water parks and the beach. I will always keep this product on hand because I have had no issues with ingrown hairs this summer!!" —Ms💗Kelli Get it from Amazon for $16.49+ (available in five sizes and in multipacks). Seraphic Skincare is a small biz specializing in exfoliating products. Promising review: "I have very thin and light body hair, so any form of removal (shaving, waxing, etc) usually leaves me with a lot of ingrown hairs. I've tried body scrubs and washcloths and neither really do a great job. I saw this product recommended by a dermatologist on TikTok and thought I'd try it — it's amazing! I also have very sensitive skin, and this mitt doesn't leave my skin irritated at all. However, absolutely do not use this mitt on your face, neck, or other sensitive areas, it would be way too harsh. I like to use this mitt first when I get in the shower, then use a body wash (a gentle chemical exfoliant) and follow up with body lotion for dry and sensitive skin. This whole routine is fragrance free and leaves my skin feeling very soft and moisturized." —Kat Get it from Amazon for $7.99 (also available in a set of two). Rubbing alcohol-based products (like Tend Skin) can help prevent an infection of an ingrown, but can’t prevent an ingrown itself, according to Cleveland Clinic. Promising review: "This product has worked GREAT on my armpits where I had big, painful, inflamed hair follicles for YEARS! I use a Dollar Shave razor now, changed every couple of weeks with Tend Skin after every shower and before deodorant. Miracles! I have noticed less of a difference on razor burn and ingrown hairs in other areas, however." —A User Get an 8-ounce bottle from Amazon for $26.50. Promising review: "I have terrible ingrown hairs. This product changes the game! I use it every time I get out of the shower, put a little on a cotton pad, and wipe in the waxed area. It brings any ingrown hairs to the surface. Consistency is a key to using this product." —Amanda Hudson "Much cheaper than Tend Skin but works exactly the same! Great stuff!" —Dee V Promising review: "Done looking for a shaving cream. LOVE THIS! I used to get nicks and way more ingrowns down there. Also, I was using Tree Hut shaving gel before, and my single-bladed razor would give me line-shaped cuts on my armpits from not gliding so smoothly. Not anymore :)" —Nayelly Promising reviews: "This product really is amazing. I’ve been using it for two months now, and I can definitely see and feel the difference. I have oily skin, and would have big ingrowns on my cheeks and chin, and sometimes neck. This soap has cleared up my breakouts and scars. My method: wash hands, wet face, foam hands with this amazing orange soap and wash away, pat dry face, and moisturize (I use eczema baby Eucerin). Don’t leave on too long! I’m so happy I made this purchase. I will definitely be buying more!!!" —Angel Torres Get a two-pack from Amazon for $14.99+ (also available in larger multipacks). Bushbalm is an Ottawa-based small skincare brand creating products for our most sensitive areas. Promising review: "I've bought this product numerous times and it never fails. I have no more ingrowns and it also helps so much with irritation after shaving!" —Pris Promising review: "I am very prone to ingrown hairs but since adding this product into my bikini shaving / waxing routine, my results are always perfect. I will use it for the first few days after shaving (I wait a day or two to use after waxing) and the result is always ZERO ingrown hairs." —rwh1203 Get it from Sephora for $24+ (available in a 28- or 60-pack). This pre-shave bar is also super soothing, thanks to its use of skin-nourishing shea butter, jojoba, and aloe. Promising review: “Must-have! I have purchased this bar of soap many times and given it away as a gift to my sister as well. 10/10 recommend. I use it three to four times a week, and I have noticed a HUGE difference in the overall softness of my skin, no more razor bumps or ingrown hairs. I use this all over, underarms, legs, after, before, and in between my Brazilian waxing sessions.” —Stevie Promising review: “FANTASTIC product! I didn't think I would be excited about this, and I didn't really want to be excited about this because I don't like having a bunch of bath/body products. I LOVE IT. I don't know how I've been shaving and moisturizing without this product. Light scent but almost undetectable. Just silky smoothness in a bottle. Less ingrowns and no problem with my razor ‘catching’ on thicker hairs. I have sensitive skin and can't usually use these kinds of pamper products, I am extremely happy with my experience with this product and recommend it highly!” —Chrissy Reviewers love to use it on their legs, underarms, bikini line, and face. Promising review: “I didn’t know I needed this! This was an impulse-buy add-on to another product I purchased. Reading the reviews and guides to the other product, it suggests I needed a product like this, and when I added the original product to the cart, this popped up. I viewed it and said why not give it a try. If you shave, pluck, or epilate YOU NEED THIS! What this has done for my skin is magic. Razor burn/ingrown hairs virtually gone. I’m one of those if I shave with a razor, I’m going to have ingrown hairs. It’s a fact of life with me and I will choose bathing suits to specifically hide this in sensitive areas. But with this exfoliating brush, I don’t have to. My husband has now stolen it to help with his neck and chin (I have got to buy another one now). If you epilate, it’s a must-buy! Use before you shave/epilate as directed and it will truly help the process.” —Amanda Get it from Amazon for $7.99+ (available individually or in a two-pack and in three colors). Promising review: “If you're a PCOS girlie who struggles with facial hair and ingrowns, this will change your life. My wax specialist recommended this to me and can I say I've never felt my skin so smooth in years after waxing since using this product. It's so refreshing and cooling, too. The price is on the high side considering its size, but it's soooo worth it!” —Browniezzz Promising review: “Life changer! Dealt with ingrowns after shaving and waxes for years. But THIS LIL’ BABY RIGHT HERE! THIS WORKS! Literally after three applications after having a mild razor burn with ingrowns, every last bump disappeared. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS.” —Bea Promising review: “I've been a loyal user of this bump stopper for over two years, incorporating it into my skincare routine twice daily without fail. To say it has become indispensable to me would be an understatement. Since puberty, I've struggled with ingrown hairs on my neck, a problem that persisted despite numerous consultations with doctors and dermatologists. Then I discovered this product, and the results were nothing short of miraculous. Within just two days of use, the red bumps that had plagued me for years were significantly reduced. This product has truly been a lifesaver. I find myself purchasing a new bottle every other month. For anyone struggling with ingrown hairs, red spots, or any related issues, I cannot recommend this product highly enough. It's not just a treatment; it's a solution that has significantly improved the quality of my life.” —Moe Haj Ali Get it from Amazon for $18.99+ (available in two formulations). I'm currently using this body scrubber in the shower and use the rougher side for when I need to exfoliate before hair removal. Promising review: "The best exfoliant in the market. I use these instead of body scrubs with all those scents and chemicals and no longer get ingrown after my full body waxes." —Da’Johnna Howell Get a three-pack from Amazon for $21.99. And check out similar sponge-shaped body exfoliators and exfoliating cloths. Promising review: “Why did I just find out about these?! These little miracle dots are amazing. They work, and I mean work on ingrown hairs. I didn't try them for acne, but I will if I need to! I will always have a package of these in my bathroom!” —MB FYI, if you’re pairing this one with a moisturizer, you’ll want to apply the exfoliator cream first, then add your moisturizer on top. Promising review: “Amazing! I don’t wear shorts because I’ve always had overall dry skin that’s been so hard to keep smooth and then causes ingrown hairs all over my legs. I just bought my first pair of shorts after using this for two weeks in combination with First Aid Beauty’s KP Scrub twice a week. I wish I could buy this in a gallon size. Unscented and my skin is smooth and soft. This has become a staple in my beauty routine, wish I found this earlier.” —sewingdame87 Get it from Amazon for $13+ (available in two sizes). I have some of these at home and use them pretty regularly. Just make sure you're not exfoliating with these (or any other product) until three days post-wax. If you're just using on your bikini area, you can get away with cutting a wipe in half, but they're also great for swiping on other areas where you might remove hair, like arms pits and legs. Promising review: "This is the only product that’s been working for me after years of wasting money on other ingrown hair products. I put this on twice a day, and I’ve been using a month now. I have little to no ingrowns, and it’s lightening up my hyperpigmentation. I can’t wait to see results after three months of use." —Jazzy Get 45 wipes from European Wax Center for $36. * Products That’ll Have Your Makeup Looking So Good, You’ll Have Everyone Begging You To Share Your Tips * Multipurpose Beauty Products To Help Simplify Your Makeup Routine * Just 28 Beauty Products That Work So Well Reviewers Call Them “Remarkable” * TikTok-Approved K-Beauty Products So Good, You’ll Repurchase Once You Run Out * Warm Weather Has Arrived, So Here Are 27 Beauty Products That Reviewers Say Are Lightweight Plus, new releases, mini-sized items, and finds from Amazon, Sephora, Tarte, and Ulta.
