White House Reportedly Considering New Public Safety Gear For Trump After WHCD Shooting

White House aides are reportedly exploring whether Donald Trump should adopt additional protective measures during public appearances, following the shooter at Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. “Discussions at high levels here at the White House are now underway about whether or not President Trump will need to wear a bulletproof vest at public events like this moving forward,” Fox News’ Peter Doocy said on Sunday. “In a phone call overnight, the president also told me last night’s incident did not trigger flashbacks to Butler, Pennsylvania, for him,” added Doocy, referring to the July 2024 attempt on then-GOP presidential candidate Trump’s life during a campaign rally. Watch Doocy’s remarks here: During his press conference following the shooting, Trump himself dismissed the suggestion from a reporter that he may have to “rethink indoor events” entirely for his own safety. “No, I can’t do that. It is what it is. We have to do it,” said Trump, who noted “the room was very secure” and that the suspected shooter was “very far away” when tackled by Secret Service agents.
