A paedophile whose collection of images of children being raped was discovered after his concerned partner reported him to police has been jailed.

Luke Tyson, 22, had amassed hundreds of images over a number of years, including ones featuring babies being abused, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

Judge Gavin Doig said it was a "tragedy" to see someone so young engaged in such offending.

Tyson, from Sunderland, admitted multiple offences including making indecent images of children and breaching sexual risk orders and was jailed for three years and four months.

He was reported to police by his then-partner, who found some of his images and concerning chats he had been having on his phone, prosecutor Emily Sanderson said.

On his devices, officers found 192 indecent images, including 51 in the most serious category, as well as a prohibited image of a man having sex with a pig, the court heard.

He had previously been made the subject of a sexual risk order after being convicted of making indecent images of children when he was a teenager, the court heard, and was later given a suspended sentence for further offending.

During a regular monitoring visit with his risk assessment officer, it was discovered he had a phone and online storage account which had not been registered with police, a violation of the court order, the court heard.

A further 246 indecent videos of children, including 127 in the most serious category, were also found, with the children aged between being babies and 12 years old, Sanderson said.

Among the most serious were videos of a three or four year old girl being raped by a man, the court heard.

Judge Doig said Tyson being so young himself was "one of the tragedies of the case".

"At only 22 years of age, it's very unfortunate you are so involved in this sort of offending and hopefully you will be able to change your ways," the judge told him.
