Reese Witherspoon Addresses Backlash Sparked By Her Pro-AI Post

Actor Reese Witherspoon dug in on her support for artificial intelligence after an Instagram post announcing why she was finally embracing the “AI revolution” backfired. Last week, the “Legally Blonde” star tried to argue that women can’t get “left behind” by technological evolution. She said that the jobs held by women were “3x more likely to be automated by AI,” but women were using the technology “at a rate 25% lower than men on average.” Witherspoon did not explain where those stats came from. Critics swarmed her Instagram comments section to highlight AI’s downsides and ask whether she was surreptitiously shilling something. Attempting to set the record straight online Monday, Witherspoon took to her Instagram Story to say, “Well, I guess my AI post got people talking.” “To be clear, no one is paying me to talk about this,” Witherspoon wrote. “I’m just a curious human. My kids are learning about AI tools, I know a lot of founders who are vibe coding, and I hear about people using AI in EVERY sector of business.” She went on to address the concerns people shared, admitting many were valid points that touched on issues she cares about. “I’m aware of the impact this could have on jobs across so many industries. I understand environmental concerns. I care deeply about local communities. And I have concerns about pending AGI,” Witherspoon wrote. Although she stressed that she doesn’t believe computers should replace humanity, Witherspoon said she was still “planning on learning as much as possible so that I’m educated about this technological revolution.” “If you want to learn with me, great, let’s do this! If you don’t, that’s okay too,” she wrote. By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
