Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville on Wednesday warned that he believes Donald Trump’s mental state has reached a dangerous turning point.

Speaking on the latest episode of his “Politics War Room” podcast, Carville referenced Aesop’s “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” fable as he acknowledged that critics have long raised concerns about Trump’s behavior and called him “crazy.”

“But I think that he’s turned a corner, and turned a corner in a really substantial way,” he cautioned.

“It’s a bad situation right now, and honestly — I’ve cried wolf so many times, but I think this time it’s really the wolf. I really do,” he added.

“I think we’re on a short leash, I really do,” he said later.

Carville’s warning comes amid fresh scrutiny of Trump, who in recent days has drawn bipartisan backlash for his attacks on Pope Leo XIV and for sharing — and then deleting — an AI-generated image of himself as Jesus, which has prompted calls from some Democratic lawmakers to consider using the 25th Amendment to remove him from office.
