Sales of Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s Cybertruck have recently been supported in part by purchases from other businesses controlled by CEO Elon Musk, highlighting challenges the electric pickup faces in attracting broader consumer demand. Data from S&P Global Mobility cited by Bloomberg News shows that SpaceX accounted for 1,279 of the 7,071 Cybertrucks registered in the United States during the fourth quarter, more than 18% of the total. Additional purchases from Musk’s other ventures brought the combined figure higher, meaning nearly one in five Cybertrucks registered during that period were sold within Musk’s own business network. Those transactions, estimated to be worth more than $100 million, have continued into this year. Other companies involved include xAI, The Boring Company, and Neuralink. The figures underscore weakening demand for the Cybertruck roughly two years after Tesla began deliveries. Without purchases from Musk-affiliated companies, fourth quarter registrations of the vehicle would have dropped by 51%, according to the data. Tesla and the companies involved did not respond to requests for comment. SpaceX completed an acquisition of xAI in February.
