First lady Melania Trump was conspicuously absent from the Sunday bridal shower for Donald Trump Jr.’s fiancee, Bettina Anderson, a Palm Beach source told People.

The first lady’s reported no-show at Mar-a-Lago stood out after she also skipped the baby shower of Tiffany Trump, President Donald Trump’s youngest daughter, the previous week in Miami. (The president, who is busy waging a war of choice against Iran but not too busy to golf, reportedly did not attend Tiffany’s shower.)

At Sunday’s bridal celebration, guests included Tiffany and Ivanka Trump, who will be Anderson’s sisters-in-law. Trump’s second wife, Marla Maples, mother of Tiffany, was there as well, according to the source and social media images shared by Anderson. Video on her Instagram story showed Trump Jr. making an entrance bearing roses.

The president’s eldest son announced his engagement to Anderson, a Florida socialite, at a White House party in December. The once-married scion was previously engaged to Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former campaign surrogate for the president and now the U.S. ambassador to Greece whom the commander in chief cringingly calls “Kimberlay.”

The first lady’s absence at the recent important events for extended family followed another curious move: declaring out of the blue that she had no relationship with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Many were baffled by the need for such an announcement and some speculated she was trying to get ahead of a story about her.

The People insider did not offer a reason for Melania Trump’s absence at the lavish bridal bash on Sunday. However, People previously wrote it was told the first lady skipped Tiffany Trump’s baby shower because she was busy with Barron Trump, her son with the president.

New York Magazine’s Intelligencer speculated about her earlier no-show.

“Just the fact that Melania wasn’t there is really something,” the outlet wrote. “The event was attended by all the other women in the president’s extended family, including Tiffany’s mother, Marla Maples; her sister-in-law Lara Trump; and even Don Jr.’s new girlfriend, Bettina Anderson.”

The first lady’s reps and the White House did not immediately return a HuffPost request for comment.
